Socrates part 2
Socrates (/ˈsɒkrətiːz/; Ancient Greek: Σωκρᾰ́της Sōkrátēs [sɔːkrátɛːs]; c. 470 – 399 BC) was a Greek philosopher from Athens who is credited as one of the founders of Western philosophy, and as being the first moral philosopher of the Western ethical tradition of thought. An enigmatic figure, he made no writings, and is known chiefly through the accounts of classical writers writing after his lifetime, particularly his students Plato and Xenophon. Socrates exerted a strong influence on philosophers in later antiquity and in the modern era. Depictions of Socrates in art, literature and popular culture have made him one of the most widely known figures in the Western philosophical tradition.

Socrates's Quotes:

  1. “True wisdom comes to each of us when we realize how little we understand about life, ourselves, and the world around us.”

  2. “The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.”

  3. “Strong minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, weak minds discuss people.”

  4. “I cannot teach anybody anything, I can only make them think.”

  5. “No one can teach, if by teaching we mean the transmission of knowledge, in any mechanical fashion, from one person to another. The most that can be done is that one person who is more knowledgeable than another can, by asking a series of questions, stimulate the other to think, and so cause him to learn for himself.”

  6. “Wonder is the beginning of wisdom.”

  7. “Smart people learn from everything and everyone. Average people from their experiences. Stupid people already have all the answers.”

  8. “Understanding a question is half an answer.”

  9. “The only good is knowledge and the only evil is ignorance.”

  10. “Awareness of ignorance is the beginning of wisdom.”

  11. “I am a fool, but I know I'm a fool and that makes me smarter than you.”
